Former cricket legends Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly faced criticism for their XI decision, which left an IPL-winning coach baffled. As the saying goes, “You can’t score runs from the dugout.” Learn more about the controversial decision and its impact on the game in this article.

Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody has expressed his confusion over the decision to leave Prithvi Shaw out of Delhi Capitals’ playing XI in the upcoming IPL 2024 matches. Despite Shaw’s recent struggles, Moody believes that his international experience makes him a better option than other contenders like Ricky Bhui.

“It doesn’t make sense to have an Indian international player like Prithvi Shaw sitting on the bench. You can’t score runs from the dugout,” Moody stated in an interview with ESPNcricinfo.

Shaw’s absence has sparked debates among fans and experts, with former India opener Wasim Jaffer questioning the team’s choice to retain Shaw in the IPL 2024 mini-auction.

“Now that they’ve kept him and not put him in the auction, it’s surprising that they’re not playing him. Punishing him and losing games is not the way forward,” Jaffer commented on Shaw’s exclusion.

Shaw faced criticism for his poor performances in the 2023 season, managing only 106 runs from eight innings. In contrast, Bhui, who replaced Shaw in the XI, has struggled to make an impact in his two outings, scoring just 3 and 0 in the matches against Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals.

In the absence of Shaw, Mitchell Marsh has taken on the opening role alongside David Warner. However, with a tough match against Chennai Super Kings looming, the pressure is on Delhi Capitals to include Shaw and bounce back from their early setbacks to secure their first victory of the season.
