Disney acquired social game developers Playdom in 763 million U.S. dollars

Disney announced the acquisition of social game developers Playdom, for 763 million U.S. dollars purchase price. Playdom has developed a variety of popular social games, including “social city” (Social City), “Fraternity Life” (Sorority Life), “Market Street” (Market Street) and “Bola” and so on. Playdom is already having number of games on Facebook , MySpace and other social networking sites, Playdom enjoys per month up to 4200 million active players. Playdom developed virtual social game, “Social City” is quite popular on the Facebook .
Disney President and CEO Robert Iger, said in a statement: “We believe that people will Playdom and strength with our innovative integration of media assets, great potential can be developed. This acquisition will further promote the growth of our business to the strategic allocation of capital to these businesses to benefit from our brand, story and characters. ”
Playdom CEO John Pleasants said that Disney is an ideal partner to help promote Playdom to bring more entertainment to global users .
Disney said, Playdom will retain its Mountain View, California as the corporate headquarters, Pulisangci Disney Interactive Media will serve as vice president and general manager Playdom.
In the fast-growing social gaming, Playdom main competitor is Zynga. Zynga is the farm game “FarmVille”, “gang war” (Mafia Wars) and “Treasure Island” (Treasure Isle) and other game developers, the monthly number of players active in more than 230 million people.
Playdom purchased six similar companies within six months
